Who are the best players in the Great Lakes region? This is an open thread to discuss All-Region nominations, All-Freshman nominations, coaching awards, and more. Stay positive and keep it civil.
i hear Va"Box in One"tor wuz snubbed
Hi my name is Ellie Cloe (Loyola Sirens), and I wanted to write about some of the amazing players I got to play with this summer on RAMP: Ellie Lind (northwestern), Eva Verner, and Gloria Adeola (uchicago). All three are deserving of all region mentions, and are leaders on the field for their respective teams. Gloria has been known to be an amazing player in both the air and on the ground (her layouts are insane), but I also got to learn that she is an awesome person who is always supportive of her teammates. Eva Verner was one of our best cutters, with her high school soccer skills showing in her speed and footwork. In addition to that, she could always make our team laugh out loud. Ellie Lind was always in the right place at the right time, with her catches always looking easy. And of course, she was also a pleasure to get to know. I really enjoyed (and still enjoy) my time playing with these three skilled seniors, and I am so glad I got to know and play with them all.
Mostly watched Flywheel and Echo this season. I don’t have much on the other teams in the region, but I’m sure there’s ballers on those teams as well.
Kat McGuire (Michigan) - Best player in the region, full stop no question. Can lock down anyone on the field and is practically unguardable herself. A true playmaker for Flywheel, lethal in the handler and the cutter space. And honestly, she makes the most outlandish plays seem like light work.
Lili Hobday (Notre Dame) - Unbelievably strong handler with incredible field sense and offensive flow. Consistently gives even the toughest defenders a run for their money.
Zaza Capriles (Michigan) - Often looking like the best defender on the field, especially when Flywheel utilizes her strength in the deep space. No stranger to powering an offense downfield either.
Sophie Harvey (Michigan) - Super athletic player. Has no trouble gaining massive, massive yards for Flywheel, even when she draws the toughest defensive matchup. Her vertical is crazy too.
Mary Larson (Notre Dame) - Cornerstone for this 2025 Echo squad. Punches well above being only a sophomore. Even if she doesn’t make All-Region this year, her name will certainly be repeated for a while.
All i know is Hobday = Goat
First team consideration:
Kat McGuire (UM)—Very good, no need to expound.
Lili Hobday (ND)—Excellent all-around player. Great field vision, awareness, athleticism, and composure under pressure. Should be on the U-24 team.
Sophie Harvey (UM)—Awesome athlete with great throws. Tough to guard and plays good defense. Very deserving of the U-24 spot.
Calliope Cutchins (UM)—Great deep throws, quickness is tough to guard in the handler space and plays great reset defense.
Elena Dansdill (ND)—Pretty much always open as a cutter and seamlessly handled at the end of the year. Routinely makes sick grabs. Excellent handler defense.
Zara Capriles (UM)—Excellent athlete and defender. Super long and intimidating on the mark. Good cutter and good deep throws.
Mary Larson (ND)—Incredible athlete and defender. Had one of the most electric individual performances I’ve ever seen against Michigan in the finals. Routinely gets huge layout D’s.
Cara Tinson (ND)—Again, incredible athlete and defender. Her size and speed allows her to shut anyone down. Pretty much always open on offense and has the ability to stretch the field with her throws
Second team consideration:
Riley Dickson (UM)—Unfortunately injured her right hand and was limited most of the second half of the year, otherwise would have been no doubt first team.
Emma Remien (UM)
Emma Baran (ND)
Jocelyn Sun (UChicago)
Eva Verner (UChicago)
Gloria Adeola (UChicago)
Eleanor Vandel (Illinois)
Ellie Lind (Northwestern)
Aiva Zoldan (MSU)
