Who are the best players in the Southwest region? This is an open thread to discuss All-Region nominations, All-Freshman nominations, coaching awards, and more. Stay positive and keep it civil.
A Claremont guy from this account here.

- Tanveer Chabba
- Mitchell Yam (also ROTY)

Honorable Mentions: Jaques Paradis, Arenarea Creamer
Coach: Wally and his dog.
Another Claremont guy from this account here.
Mitchell Yam has been an absolute menace all year long. Quick movements on and off the ball, his sexy hucks, and his all around commanding presence on the field make him a very feared and respected player/opponent. He should be in the talks for rookie of the year 100% nation wide.
Tobias Wepman gotta be in here for All-Region and ROTY. He’s probably the most explosive athlete in the region and has all the throws in the book, especially a pinpoint accurate hammer that really sets him apart from many throwers. Toby is ultra-effective anywhere on the field on both sides of the disc, that versatility is rare and special.
Mitchell Yam here- my nominations are as follows, no particular order:
Isamu Sims (POTY)
This kid is an absolute freight train. Armed with hucks, break throws, athleticism, and a nose for the disc, playing on the D-line with Isamu is truly an amazing experience. Nobody can stop him when he decides to take over a game, if only he was as unstoppable with his Japanese homework.
Teddy McGowan
Teddy having himself a game is a sight to behold. A rare combination of poise, field sense, and versatility make him a rock-solid presence for Oxy that can make a difference at a moment’s notice. You can really see how vital he is to Detox.
Elijah Axt and Jacques Paradis
Playing with these two is any handler’s dream. Jacques will bring down any disc you put in his general direction while Elijah will bully opponents in the deep space and use his throws to make full use of any free unders you give him. Add that to them both being elite defenders and you have a cutter duo that drives much of the Braineater’s downfield action on both sides of the disc.
Tobias Wepman (ROTY)
Sometimes you know what Toby is going to do and you still can’t stop it. His first step is the most explosive in the region and his throws give him the tools to open up the field as he sees fit. Really excited to compete against him for the next three years.
Jamie Miller
Jamie’s versatility and discipline is something that allows the Braineaters to succeed as a team. Always looking for opportunities to improve and learn from others, Jamie is every coach and teammate’s dream: a player who will work hard on both sides of the disc and do exactly what the team needs him to do.
Ryan Williams
Despite being newer to the game, Ryan’s athleticism makes him a nightmare to guard and even scarier on defense. He’ll calmly take ambitious break throws and hucks, making for a lethal combination with his ability to find space with his legs. Definitely one of the defensive cornerstones of the Brains.
This is actually Isaiah:
Everyone has basically said what needs to be said already so I’ll keep it short
ROTY: Toby and Mitch are both very good, take lots of shots and throw lots of turns- both will be absolute problems for the next few years. Toby is probably better now but Mitch won the game so up to you.
- Silas Brock is already a better defender than both of them
All region:
Teddy McGowan- best player in the region, not super close yesterday
Jamie miller- the only guy who could hang with Teddy, will only get better
Isamu- still haven’t found anyone who can guard him
Ryan Williams- dawg
Elijah Axt
Jack Paradis
Arenaria Cramer- we almost lost against a zone because he was busy at TEP
COTY: Box+ Cody? Whatever his name is
Made us look foolish…
This is actually not Isaiah, this is Jamie.
All region - No order. These guys have all been talked about so no blurbs for them.
Ryan Williams (Claremont)
Jack Paradis (Claremont)
Isamu Sims (Claremont)
Elijah Axt (Claremont)
Isaiah Curtis (Claremont)
Teddy McGowan (Occidental)
Mitchell Yam (Claremont ROTY) or Toby Wepman (Occidental)
Both Toby and Yam are great, they tie for the last spot. Looking forward to seeing Mitch perform at Nationals.
COTY: Wally’s dog and Box’s dog are the best coaches.
Now to shoutout some of the guys that have made such huge impacts on this team that don’t normally get talked about for these all-region lines. (Mostly Claremont)
Martín Jimenez-Williams is a rock. He was such a consistent handler when Claremont got flustered at Sectionals, which he’s also done all year. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him throw a turn. Toby and Mitch are great, but Martín deserves some flowers for how well he’s done all season and especially at Sectionals. Such a pleasure to watch on the field.
Elias Gradinger has taken huge steps up this year. Stepped confidently into his handler role this year, and played beautifully at Sectionals. So fun to play with him, and he brings a beautiful happy energy.
Arenaria Cramer - like Isaiah said, we really missed his handling and leadership this weekend. The calmest center handler I’ve ever played with, always has the right throw for breaking zones.
Also shoutout Max Brown on Occidental, always a blast to play against him, and he brings such a fun and competitive spirit to the game.
Holy Trifecta of Handler Defense:
Silas Brock is such a great addition to the D-line this year, has great athleticism, great handler defense, and has been putting in the work this season. Really looking forward to seeing him improve over the next three years.
If Jeremy Kaufman wasn’t on a stupid Scuba trip this weekend, we would have gotten a couple more crazy lay-out Ds against Oxy. He’d follow that up with scoring bookends and then would dance on you. This guy just works so hard, and has shown huge improvements this year on both ends of the ball.
Emmett Levine takes such pride in his defense. He’s worked so hard with the two above guys to create a really scary set of handler defenders that will lock you down and mess up your reset system. Gives 100% of himself to the Brains, we wouldn’t be where we are without his behind the scenes work.
Teddy McGowan here from Will Carter’s account. Shoutout Claremont you guys have a great team and culture. I will be putting some hype on some oxy boys here.
Rookie of the Year: I have two standouts here being Toby Wepman and Noah Hébert-Lynch.
As people have said in here Toby is an absolute dog. No doubt quickest first step in the region, also quickest second step and third step. Good luck keeping up. Also you’re not faster than him when he’s guarding you, you aren’t going anywhere.
Noah hasn’t been mentioned yet but his game requires a nomination. Easily a front runner in this category, when I caught the disc Noah was often my continuation cutter and that mo%#{+~%$&er was in the right spot at the right time making the right decisions EVERY SINGLE TIME. AND HAVE I MENTIONED HIS ATHLETIC PROWESS?? JUMP WITH HIM. JUMP. WITH. HIM. this dude started playing this year and was cooking veterans all up and down the west coast. Some of y’all need to do some reflection. Noah forces us to be better.
All region shouts:
Elias Davatzes: first of all, his lats are bigger than yours. Second of all, he’s the most consistent player in the gahd DAMN REGION. Ice in his veins and fire in his eyes this dude will cut wherever he wants and get the disc. Oh you’re forcing him under? DOESNT F$;&”@NG MATTER. You can’t guard him. And guess what? Because you can’t guard him he’s gonna get the disc. And then what? He’s going to throw it WHEREVER THE F$CK HE WANTS.
Will (muthaf$&@:ng) CARTER: Just stop it. Cut it out. Yall need to stop talking about whoever you’re talking about and start talking about this BAD BAD MAN. This dude buzzed his head and his brain grew. IQ off the charts there is honestly no match in the region. But nothing here stops with Will’s head. SUDDENLY Out of NO WHERE HIS ARM IS THREE FEET ABOVE YOUR HEAD. IN A FLASH HES IN FRONT OF YOU WINDING UP FOR A THICK BACKHAND HUCK. A RELEASE. A HUSH. THE DISC HUMMING THROUGH THE AIR. NOAH IN THE ENDZONE. and suddenly, the point you wanted so badly belongs to us.
My phone is gonna die so I’m just gonna post this as is but you BETTER FU$&ING BELIEVE THAT NATHAN CRAWFORD, IAN TERELL, LUKE WEST, LIAM SCHEDLER, MAX BROWN, AND EMERSON STALEY ARE ALL THE EMBODIMENT OF LOVE FOR THE GAME AND THEY TRULY MADE ME LOVE THIS GAME AND THIS TEAM. Shoutout Detox, this is the best team I’ve ever been a part of and the time I got to spend with this community will always echo in eternity.
Another Claremont guy posting from this account. These are my all-region nominations:
