Disc golf has been in the news quite a bit lately. And it was there again earlier this week when Nate Sexton’s appearance at Grand Forks, North Dakota’s Lincoln Drive Park was covered in a story by regional news station WDAY based out of nearby Fargo, North Dakota.
Sexton, the 2017 United States Disc Golf Champion, was on site promoting his nationwide Sexton Shootout events that include a three-disc casual tournament followed by a clinic from the top pro.
Sexton skipped out on last weekend’s Idlewild Open to instead host the event in Grand Forks on July 21st, as well as one the next day in Stewartville, Minnesota. Passing on a chance to compete seemed like an easy one for Sexton when there were quality opportunities to share the sport at the grassroots level.
“My name and my standing in the sport can hopefully bring more people into the fold and let them become more serious about the game,” Sexton explained in the story. “I think our sport can connect casual fans with the movers and shakers [in these local areas] and let them find that outlet to volunteer their time or to further that goal of growing the courses and making the facilities better in their town.”
Upcoming Sexton Shootout events are coming to Evansville, Indiana tomorrow, and Hendersonville, North Carolina on July 28th. You can see a full schedule for the series here.
