Weekend Rewind: Tillman, Fajkus Take Oklahoma Open Wins

Sure, the proper pro season is in the books. That doesn’t mean disc golf suddenly took a vacation, as a handful of prominent players took the course as fall settled into place.

Powered by a 1050-rated opening round, Bo Tillman took down a home state win and $1,200 at the Oklahoma Open with a 35-under par 149. Fellow Oklahoman Devan Owens tied for second place with Kevin Jones, as the pair tossed 34-under par 150s during the three-round event in Tulsa, while Coda Hatfield and Paul Ulibarri took fourth place with their 33-under par 151s. Other notable road warriors took part in the tournament, with Zackeriath Johnson tying for eighth place; Bradley Williams and Avery Jenkins sharing ninth; and Gregg Barsby taking 13th as he makes his way back west.

In the Open Women’s division, Lisa Fajkus took a commanding victory, her 10-under par 174 good enough to bring home a $450 prize. Courtney McCoy took second place with a 3-under par 181, while Melody Waibel took third with a 3-over par 187.

James Conrad’s breakout campaign continued at The Laurels in Montross, Virginia, where the lanky pro averaged 1042-rated golf to take a two-shot win and a $500 payday. Conrad’s 13-under par 131 was better than Stephen Miller’s 11-under par 133, while Chris Dickerson took third place after a 9-under par 135 performance at the two-round tournament. The victory was Conrad’s sixth of the season.

Michael Johansen notched his seventh win of 2017 by taking down the 32nd Sneeky Pete Classic in Burlington, North Carolina, after a 1042-rated final round. Johansen’s 48-under par 194 at the four-round B-Tier kept him just clear of Barry Schultz, who carded a 47-under par 195 to take second place. Burlington local Lance Brown tossed all four rounds above his 999 rating en route to a third place showing with a 45-under par 197.

Down in Florida, JohnE McCray logged a comeback win at the B-Tier NOSO Open in Port Charlotte, knocking off Charlie Goodpasture in the final round to take a one-stroke victory.
