Dodge Unsanctions Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship

Disc Golf Pro Tour Director Steve Dodge announced tonight on the SmashboxxTV podcast and on the tour’s website that this weekend’s Pro Tour Championship in Vermont will not be PDGA-sanctioned.

Citing strained relations with the PDGA and Williams’ recent suspension, Dodge said “being a PDGA event is hurting the DGPT Tour Championship.”

“In good conscience, knowing that the goals of the DGPT are to build a professional Pro Tour throughout North America, we cannot continue to pretend to work together with the PDGA,” Dodge said. “The PDGA has consistently failed to communicate, put roadblocks in our way, refused to have discussions, and has suspended Pro Tour players without consulting the Pro Tour or the players.”

Since Williams is only suspended from PDGA-sanctioned events, he will be allowed to play this weekend. Paul McBeth, who recently announced that he would not be playing PDGA non-Major events in protest of the organization’s lack of transparency in disciplinary matters, has not confirmed his plans for the weekend.

Ultiworld Disc Golf will have more on this story as it develops.
