Three of the top four finishers at last week’s PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships picked up where they left off yesterday at the Ledgestone Open in Peoria, Illinois.
Paul McBeth followed up his second place at Worlds by opening play at Northwood Park with a 13-under par 45 hot round to land in first place. Cam Colglazier, who finished fourth in Emporia, fired off a 12-under par 46 to land in second place, while Michael Johansen and Chris Dickerson sit in third place after 11-under par 47s. Nikko Locastro, who came took third at Worlds, shot a 10-under par 48 and is tied for fifth place with Nate Doss and Logan Bowers.
McBeth, whose bogey-free round was highlighted by consecutive birdies from Holes 2 through 6 and 8 through 14, led the field with a greens-in-regulation rate of 72 percent. He said he entered the tournament with the same drive as always, despite coming off his first Worlds loss in five years.
“No extra motivation,” McBeth said. “Like I’ve said before, I’m just now getting to where I want to be. I’m healthy. Now it’s time to continue to get my game on the same level.”
Newly-crowned PDGA World Champion Ricky Wysocki, meanwhile, carded four bogeys and struggled to a 3-under par 55. He is currently tied for 62nd place.
On the FPO side, Des Reading jumped up a division after taking home the Women’s Masters title at Worlds and started with a 6-under par 50 at McNaughton Park to land in first place. Catrina Allen’s 5-under par 51 finds her in second overall, while Valarie Jenkins and Sarah Hokom are tied for third place after 1-under par 55s on the day.
Both divisions continue play at their respective courses today, with men’s lead card coverage kicking off at 2:30 p.m. local time on the Disc Golf Pro Tour’s YouTube channel.
