“But we were playing leagues so the game must go on,” said Alaska man who threw a disc over a sleeping black bear.

Kelley Williamson was competing in a doubles league at Kincaid Park in Anchorage when a bear walked onto the disc golf course at hole 11 and plopped down for a nap in the fairway while Williamson and company stood on the tee box. After waiting about 10 minutes, Williamson decided to go ahead and play through. And lived to talk to the local TV station about it.

Alaska man throws disc golf disc over bear

There’s a lot to unpack here. Right off the bat, this seems like a very Alaska thing to just not worry about a black bear crashing your round. You just stand there and wait while a bear is feet away?

Then, you do something that could easily rile up a massive, potentially aggressive animal. And even if your throw does “succeed,” (there’s no succeeding here) then what? Do you walk around the bear, assuming that won’t wake it?

In actuality, the bear was somehow stirred by the disc flying overhead and just ambled away. I don’t understand Alaska.
