Tulsa Douglas is the player to beat in the North Central, and it’s not even close. St. Olaf Vortex is an incredibly deep team with depth all through the roster, and they’d be tough to beat without Douglas. Still, when she’s on the field Vortex becomes a whole new monster.
The cliches are all there: she makes her teammates better, she leads from the front, she’s got “intangibles.” While true, it fails to fully express the impact she has on her team, and on their games.
Every good team has at least one player that elevates the rest simply by being there. Douglas could carry Vortex, but through her leadership and talent, she doesn’t need to. Vortex is going to Nationals because their team is very good. Vortex will succeed at Nationals because Tulsa Douglas makes them that much better.
