On day two of the San Francisco Open, Catrina Allen did not scramble well. She failed to convert one scramble opportunity.
Allen didn’t need to; she didn’t have any chances to scramble.
Allen landed 100% of the fairways at the Gleneagles course and did not miss a Circle 2 green in regulation. A blistering 1021-rated, 10-under par 56 catapulted Allen into the lead at 13-under par 119 total. She went 7-under through nine holes in the middle of the round, and closed out the day with a turkey.
If you could critique anything on the day it could be Allen’s conversion rate inside Circle 1X. The 71% doesn’t stand out in the stellar round, but she also wasn’t having to test her short game much. Allen parked 33% of the holes in route to the bogey-free day.
Five strokes behind Allen in second place is Paige Pierce, who shot a solid round herself, just overshadowed by the hot score. Pierce’s 5-under par 61 was her second 980-rated round in as many days, and brought her total to 8-under par 124 total.
A lone double-bogey on hole 6 was the only blemish for Pierce. Her 83% C2 in regulation was second only to Allen.
Day one leader Paige Bjerkaas fell two spots to third, and Madison Walker remains in fourth. Erika Stinchcomb was the big mover of the day, shooting a 2-under par 64 and jumping five spots into a tie for fifth with Sarah Hokom at 1-over par 133 total.
Overall, the Open Women’s field shot almost 1.5 strokes lower Saturday than Friday. Five players birdied hole 18, where none were able to during round one.
