As day two of the Kansas City Wide Open shifted from the first round’s long, sloping hills of Blue Valley to the slightly less long Swope Park, the women’s and men’s leaders at the Professional Disc Golf Association’s third National Tour stop continued their assault on the competition.
Catrina Allen shot a one-over par 62 two bring her to two-under par for the tournament, and in the process extended her lead over Liz Carr-Sypien (+7) to a whopping nine strokes. Valarie Jenkins (+8) and Jennifer Allen (+10) finished the day in third and fourth place, while Paige Pierce (+11) slid to fifth place after carding a 12 on Hole 4 and an 8 on Hole 15.
Ricky Wysocki came into the day with a one shot lead over Benjamin Wiggins in the men’s division and actually ceded control to the latter for a couple of early holes before putting the pedal to the metal late in the round. Wysocki’s (-22) string of birdies from Holes 10-14 saw him pick up three strokes on Wiggins (-20) and contributed to his hot round of nine-under par, though he gave back a couple shots late and now holds a two shot advantage heading into today’s final. Nikko Locastro (-15) sits alone in third place, while five players are tied for fourth place at 13-under par.
Today’s final concludes at Swope Park, with women’s play beginning at 9:54 a.m. local time and, as a result, looking relatively safe from impending thunderstorms. With forecasts calling for the skies to open in the 1 p.m. hour, though, the men’s final could be impacted.
