After handing out awards from Player of the Year to Most Improved for the first time in 2021, the Disc Golf Pro Tour is reprising the awards with new criteria in 2022.
Additionally, the DGPT says they will announce the awards in a new livestreamed awards show after the season.
The DGPT Player of the Year awards will now be determined by three criteria, weighted equally: DGPT points, average finish at Majors and the DGPT Championship, and a media vote. Last year, the awards also included a fan vote component.
The DGPT Rookie of the Year award will go to the player that has the highest point total who has not played in more than three DGPT, National Tour, or Major tournaments in a single previous season. Players who have competed in more than two Majors in a single previous season are also ineligible. This new rule would have disallowed Juliana Korver, the five-time world champion, from winning the DGPT Rookie of the Year award as she did in 2021.
The DGPT Most Improved award will be decided based on a 50/50 fan and media vote.
The tour will also name three cards of All-Stars. The 1st card will be comprised of the top four DGPT points earners from the season. The 2nd and 3rd cards will be determined by four categories, weighted equally: tour points, average finish at Majors and the DGPT Championship, a fan vote, and a media vote.
