Disc Golf Hall of Fame – Class of 2021
Ultiworld Disc Golf’s coverage of the 2021 United States Disc Golf Championship and Throw Pink Women’s Disc Golf Championship is presented by Skybreed Discs, a top online retailer and preferred vendor of the 2021 Ledgestone Insurance Open.
The Disc Golf Hall of Fame (DGHoF) will induct five new members as part of its 2021 Class, and the ceremony will be livestreamed as part of the USDGC’s broadcast on Saturday, October 9.
“The Class of 2021 is another well deserving group of five inductees from around the world. This is the second year in a row the Hall elected an international class, truly signifying the sport is established world-wide,” said Andi Young, Executive Director of the DGHoF. “Each has made significant contributions over the decades as they planted the many seeds that have helped grow the sport, and share the same passion for our sport that all disc golfers have.”
In 2021, two Americans, a Canadian, a Dane, and a Swede will join the honored ranks.
David McCormack is an original golf disc industrialist and was an early entry in the manufacturing game. McCormack founded Gateway Disc Sports in 1994 and also has an impressive course design portfolio, including the impressive new Eagles Crossing in Missouri.
Dean Tannock has always been a fierce competitor with his own career collection of wins and top finishes, including a Masters World Championship and US Grandmasters major title, but Dean-O’s influence extends to his mentorship with his local disc golf family.
Glen Whitlock can be credited with being our sport’s first full-time touring player. Back in the day, Whitlock hit the road traveling mainly through his native Canada and the U.S., while also going over the “pond” to participate in early disc golf events in Europe, and the DGHoF will be proud to share his pioneering story.
Martin Frederikson has worked on both sides of the disc, putting in the time as a developer and promoter, as well as a player who still competes to this day. Frederikson was instrumental in establishing the first disc golf courses in his native Denmark in 1985, and two years later was part of the group that established the Disc Golf Eurotour.
Jonas Löf was instrumental in planting the earliest seeds of disc golf development in his home country of Sweden. His landscaping background contributed to establishing one of the most, if not the most, popular international disc golf destination course in the history of our sport, Järva DiscgolfPark.
DGHoF became an official non-profit 501(c)3 organization in 2021. A long-standing misconception is that DGHoF funded or a part of the PDGA, whereas it has been a stand alone entity since 1993 and funded only by the sale of limited annual commemorative discs. By attaining non-profit status, DGHoF is able to receive tax-free donations. More financial support would go directly to the DGHoF’s stated missions of recognizing those in disc golf who have paved the way, preserving the sport’s history, carrying on the task of educating future generations, and initiating the search for a permanent home for The Disc Golf Hall of Fame to house that history and continue the recognition of the founders of our sport.
