European Disc Golf Championship: Sweden's Berg, Finland's Salonen Take Early Leads

After having to cancel the 2020 edition of the European Disc Golf Championship cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic, the EDGC returns this week to the grounds of the Konopiště Castle in the Czech Republic.

Both the Open and Open Women’s divisions are playing the Franz Ferdinand course on the castle ground, a temporary layout also used for the 2018 Konopiště Open PDGA Major, won by Eagle McMahon and Eveliina Salonen.

The four round tournament started Wednesday, and video coverage can be found at SpinTV (MPO) and More Disc Golf (FPO).

FPO – Round 1

Kristin Tattar (Estonia), Henna Blomroos (Finland), and Salonen (Finland) are all playing the event, and barring an upset, will be your podium in some order. After 18 holes, Salonen leads at 4-under par, with Blomroos at 3-under, and Tattar at 2-under.

MPO – Round 1

Simon Lizotte (Germany) and Väinö Mäkelä (Finland) are near the top of the betting favorites to take home a championship, but after one round it was 982-rated Josef Berg out in front at 12-under par. Lizotte was tied in second with a notable group of players at 10-under par, including 1050-rated German Marvin Tetzel, Linus Carlsson, Niklas Anttila, and Håkon Kveseth.
