Everything is bigger in Texas; even the odds!
History says Eagle McMahon is facing a monumental task in Waco, Texas as he attempts to win back-to-back tournaments with an elite field.1 While winning one tournament is hard enough, winning consecutive events has proven almost impossible. Unless you’re one of two people.
How long exactly has it been since anyone other than Paul McBeth or Ricky Wysocki has won two consecutive events that both McBeth and Wysocki entered?
You need to go back seven years — SEVEN YEARS — to April 2012 when Will Schusterick won at the Glass Blown Open and followed it up the next weekend with a victory at the SOKY Championships A-tier. McBeth finished second at both events while Wysocki placed 10th at both tournaments.
Before these two events in 2012, McBeth and Wysocki had only played 15 events together. Since the Schusterick consecutive wins, the duo has played 118 joint events, with one of them winning over 65-percent of the time.
In the last year, aside from McBeth and Wysocki, only one golfer has won multiple tournaments that they both played in — McMahon winning on five occasions over that span. Coming off his latest win at The Memorial Championship in Scottsdale, Arizona, the goal for McMahon this weekend at the Waco Annual Charity Open is to not only win, but make history while doing so.
If anyone has the ability to go back-to-back beating the two current untouchables, McMahon has the best shot.
