It was another day of picture-perfect disc golf weather in the Natural State, and the players took full advantage during round 2 of the Jonesboro Open.
- Paige Pierce added two strokes to her round 1 lead with a hot round 9-under par pushing her to 19-under par total and an eight stroke advantage. She erased the added sticks from two bogeys by parking hole 14 for a tap-in eagle, her second eagle thus far in the event. Pierce is top three in every major statistical category with the exception of fairway hits where she ranks 12th. Both rounds 1 and 2 are currently rated over 1000.
- The big story on the day was the rest of the lead card — Hailey King, Catrina Allen, Jessica Weese — keeping pace with the birdie fest and all scoring 7-under par rounds on Friday. Unofficially-rated 984 rounds keep each player in the same spot on the leaderboard, with King in second at 11-under par total, and Allen and Weese tied in third at 9-under par. Allen and Weese ended their days with birdies on hole 18, the second most difficult hole to par on the course, and Allen’s coming courtesy of a 50-foot dagger putt. King continues to lead the field in Circle 1X putting, having only missed one chance out of 24 attempts.
- Four more players, Emily Beach (5th), Vanessa Van Dyken (T-6th), Missy Gannon (T-6th), and Courtney “Pixie” Cannon (T-10th), also went under par on Friday. The eight players under par in a single round is best for the Open Women’s field in competition at Jonesboro.
- Pierce came from behind in the final round last season to win the Jonesboro Open, but was starting the final round with only a two stroke deficit.
