On a course made for long arms, the longest arm rose to the challenge.

Simon Lizotte shot a blistering 12-under par 55 to set the pace at the first round of the Disc Golf World Tour’s Konopiště Open, where he is currently tied for first place with Finland’s Jalle Stoor. Defending Konopiště champion K.J. Nybo (-11) sits one shot behind the leaders in third place, while four other players have a hold on fourth place at 10-under.

While Lizotte is known for his superior driving skills, it was actually his putter that caught fire during round one action, as he canned five shots outside the 10-meter circle to lead the field and made all of his inside-the-circle putts. He also eagled the Franz Ferdinand course’s Par 5, 311-meter (1,020 feet) Hole 11.

Stoor, meanwhile, rode his upshot accuracy to his share of the lead, landing on the green on 50 percent of the holes.

Further down the leaderboard, Professional Disc Golf Association World Champion Paul McBeth aced Hole 4 with a 109-meter (358 feet) uphill drive. Putting struggles dogged McBeth for the rest of the round, though, as he only made 88 percent of his inside-the-circle putts to slide to eighth place.
