Running it With Nate Sexton Podcast
We didn’t get to see much of Nate Sexton on the course in 2020, including zero Elite Series appearances after the season restart, but we did get to experience even more of Sexton behind the microphone. After an injury during practice for the USDGC in October, the well-spoken pro jumped into the booth as an on-course commentator adding an extra perspective to both the USDGC and Women’s National Championship live broadcasts.
For those who appreciated the native Oregonian’s live analysis, and have long enjoyed his post-produced commentary partnership with Jeremy Koling on JomezPro videos, there is now another media channel to consume Sexton content, as he and co-host Jarett Orr launched the “Running It with Nate Sexton” podcast in early December.
This is not Sexton’s first foray into podcasting. Sexton and Koling joined Jomez’s Jonathan Gomez on a live YouTube podcast for 12 episodes during the season shutdown in April through June. Sexton has also had prior intentions of hosting his own podcast.
Orr, however, was the driving force behind getting “Running It” off the ground. While he may not be familiar in the disc golf world, Orr has produced several podcast with professional athletes in the past including Jose Conseco and former WWE wrestler Al Snow. It’s this background that made the project enticing to Sexton.
“His expertise in podcasting and his willingness to make the process extremely easy on me,” said Sexton of the appeal. “I just have to contribute show ideas and record. He and his team take care of all the editing, distribution, advertising, etc.”
Episode 1, released December 4th, served as both an introduction and had Sexton talking about what last year’s win at the Las Vegas Challenge meant, as well as how the coronavirus impacted not only his season but the entire tour. Looking ahead, the duo plans to discuss disc golf news, disc reviews, fan questions, and let Sexton share some stories.
“Well, we are just starting out so I’m not sure even we know exactly what our show will become,” said Sexton. “We have lots of ideas for shows. Episode two will focus on my amateur career and making the jump from casual to serious player. We want to have other pros on to discuss past tournaments and funny stories. An episode on Champs vs Chumps with Ian Anderson would be great. Jonathan Gomez on the genesis of JomezPro. Lots of exciting stuff coming.”
Episode two is recording this week and Sexton already feels good about the state of the show, saying, “Starting out with someone with four years professional podcast experience and a United States champion with 15 seasons of professional disc golf under my belt positions us perfectly to make a quality show.”
