Nate Sexton has renegotiated and extended his current sponsorship deal with Innova through the 2025 season, keeping him with the California-based manufacturer for at least 19 consecutive seasons.
The Innova team captain was already under contract through 2023 but added two years to the deal. He had previously signed an early extension before the 2021 season.
“I am honored to continue to serve as team captain and I look forward to another wonderful year with the company I started with!” Sexton wrote on Instagram. “Thank you for everything Innova!”
“Proud to have the King Firebird soaring through 2025 with Team Innova wings,” Innova posted on social media.
Sexton told Ultiworld Disc Golf that he hopes to play a bit more in 2022. “I was so encouraged by the way the Worlds and the USDGC went last year, so I hope I can stay healthy and be in contention at big tournaments heading into the final day,” he said. Sexton finished third at Worlds and fifth at the USDGC.
Still, he doesn’t expect to ever return to full-time touring now that he has a family with young children. He plans to move from Washington back to Oregon after his wife finishes residency this summer. She’ll have some time off before going back to work. “I’m hoping to get the family out there for a couple of tournaments,” said Sexton.
Details of Sexton’s contracts have never been released, but he is widely understood to be one of the sport’s highest compensated players thanks to the immense success of the Sexton Firebird. He confirmed that his royalties per disc sold have continued to increase in each new contract, including this new extension through 2025.
Sexton will continue to be a commentator for Jomez and the Disc Golf Network as his schedule permits. He plans to start his 2022 season at the Las Vegas Challenge, the first stop on the Disc Golf Pro Tour.
