Paige Pierce announced in an Instagram story that she is competing at the Canadian Championships in an attempt to qualify for one of the remaining United States Disc Golf Championship spots.
The top five finishers by score (MPO & FPO) at the 2018 Canadian Championship that have not already received invitations to USDGC will qualify for the event. After one round, Pierce was tied for the fifth remaining spot with four other players at 2-under par. Chandler Fry, Nate Perkins, Nate Sexton, Dustin Keegan, and Simon Lizotte have already qualified for USDGC.
The 2018 FPO World Champion Paige Bjerkaas will receive an automatic invitation to USDGC, as will the United States Women’s Champion that will be decided next weekend in Lansing, Michigan.
Pierce competed in the 2017 USDGC finishing 87th. She joined Juliana Korver, Des Reading, and Elaine King as the only women to have qualified for the USDGC based on score at regional qualifiers. Pierce qualified in 2017 at the Aussie Open.Pierce also won the 2014 USDGC Performance Flight, the only woman to do so, a handicapped-event that ran alongside the traditional USDGC from 2012-2015.
Pierce had previously been registered for the Delaware Disc Golf Challenge National Tour event this weekend.
