The same day Paul McBeth became the first player in PDGA history to record a 1060 player rating, McBeth announced via Instagram that he would be ending his 2019 season early due to an injury.
“Unfortunately I re-aggravated an injury on the first hole of the [USDGC],” McBeth said. My right ankle had a severe pop during my putt, I even questioned, “What was that pop?” on my way to the basket.”
McBeth would go on the finish outside of cash in a tie for 64th place. He only finished one round under par.
The extent of his injury is currently unknown, but withdrawing from this weekend’s Hall of Fame Classic and the Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship October 18-20 shows McBeth is not risking any further damage.
It should be noted that McBeth is currently 10th in PDGA National Tour standings after skipping both the Beaver State Fling and Delaware Disc Golf Challenge. Even a win at the HOFC would still not bring his total to current points leader Ricky Wysocki. McBeth would have been the top seed at the DGPT Championship.
