Another day in Milford, Michigan and another round at Toboggan with Paige Pierce painting the fairways with her discs.
Pierce threw a 991-rated second round to build a seven stroke lead heading into the final day at the Disc Golf Pro Tour’s Great Lakes Open. Her second day matched her first at 4-under par 56 to move her to 8-under par 112 total. She opened the round 3-under par through six holes and bogey-free before finding any trouble.
A birdie-less streak in the middle third of the course included a couple of two-putts for Pierce and dropped her back to even par. She would rally to close out, picking up four birdies over the final six holes to bookend the round.
Through 36 holes, Pierce leads Open women in every major UDisc Live driving category — fairways, parked, Circle 1 in regulation, Circle 2 in regulation — and is 16th in C1X putting after a better showing on the green Saturday.
Catrina Allen looked poised to make a run at the lead, starting round two 4-under through the first six holes, picking up a stroke on Pierce. Holes 7 to 9, however, included a three-putt and two bogeys and a double-bogey to erase her gains. She wasn’t able to find any more consistent scoring opportunities and finished the day at even par to remain in second place at 1-under par 122 total.
Defending champion Sarah Hokom shot a 1-under par to move into a tie for second with Allen. She only had two birdies on the day but scrambled at a 91% rate. She only recorded pars from hole 9 on.
