The World Flying Disc Federation has extended registration for its World Team Disc Golf Championships in August, the organization this week.

Taking place from August 26-28 in Golchester, Great Britain, the World Team Disc Golf Championships pits six-person teams from registered countries in a unique format that includes both paired pool play and match play. Twelve countries — including the United States, Finland, and New Zealand — have already assembled teams, but with one of WFDF’s goals being to highlight more countries for possible inclusion in future Olympic play, the deadline was pushed back in an effort to gain more participants.

“We developed this national team competition format to showcase disc golf with a truly World Championship perspective,” WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch said in a release. “As this is only the second time the event has been held, we wanted to be flexible and encourage disc golf athletes in as many countries as possible to participate and play along with athletes from their own country as a team for national pride. We hope we can establish a strong track record of international competitions in disc golf over the coming years so that the sport can meet the minimum criteria for consideration under the Olympic model.”

Last year’s World Team Disc Golf Championships took place in British Columbia, Canada, and saw Team USA taking the victory. This year’s version is sanctioned as a PDGA XA-Tier, with player rosters to be announced in the coming weeks. Those looking to form teams can find more information on the WFDF World Team Disc Golf Championships website.
