In what has become a familiar refrain during the 2016 season, Ricky Wysocki is out in front after one day at the Green Mountain Championship.
The PDGA World Champion carded an 11-under par 49 at the Brewster Ridge course Thursday to take a one stroke lead over six players – including Gregg Barsby, Nate Sexton, and Michael Johansen – who sit tied for second place at 10-under. Wysocki’s showing was two strokes better than his opening round at the same course during last year’s GMC and is preliminarily rated 1063. He will look to improve on his second round performance from the 2015 GMC, which saw him card a 1091-rated 49 at Fox Run Meadows.
The MPO chase card is comprised of Jeremy Koling, Paul Oman, Drew Gibson and Cam Todd. Paul McBeth headlines the third card along with Will Schusterick, Devan Owens and Don Smith.
Paige Pierce leads after round one in FPO, as her 1-under par 59 has her one stroke ahead of 2015 GMC champion Catrina Allen, who fired off an even par 60 on Thursday. Zoe Andyke’s 3-over par 63 finds her in third place, while Valarie Jenkins rounds out the lead card with a 4-over par 64.
The top 21 players in MPO–the furthest back of whom are tied for 17th place at 7-under par and four strokes off the lead–played a combined 378 holes during the first round at Brewster Ridge. Of those 378 holes, only 16 bogeys or double bogeys were carded by the 21 players for a non-par/birdie percentage of 4.23. Nine players in the MPO field of 123 competitors shot a bogey-free first round.
Live coverage of the second round begins today at 2 p.m. local time on SmashboxxTV, while scoring updates can be accessed on UDisc Live.
