On one of the longest courses on the Professional Disc Golf Association National Tour, the United States Disc Golf Championships distance competition winner seemed a logical choice to be the leader after round one of the Kansas City Wide Open, especially after Alex Geisinger shot a 12-under par 53 to be the early leader in the clubhouse.
Then the Sockibomb landed on the tournament’s Blue Valley course.
Ricky Wysocki took the wind out of Geisinger’s sails with a 13-under par 52 – including an eagle on the Par 4, 618-foot Hole 7 – on the way to sole possession of first place after day one at the KCWO. Benjamin Wiggins (-12) is tied with Geisinger for second place, while Nikko Locastro, Jeremy Koling, and Bradley Williams (-10) all sit at fourth place heading into today’s action at Swope Gold.
Women’s competition saw Catrina Allen jump out to an early four-shot lead with a three-under par 62 performance that was highlighted by a division-high eight birdies. Jennifer Allen (+1) is tied for second place, while Paige Pierce and Liz Carr-Sypien (+2) and Valarie Jenkins (+4) round out the top five.
